As far as bettering the logo itself, you gotta tell us more. What's the name of the company? What do they sell? Who do they sell it to? What image are you trying to portray for yourself within your industry? What is the company's philosophy/mission/etc.? This logo tells us nothing, so we really can't critique it.

Which is best is probably a matter of personal preference. I'm most familiar with FontLab Studio but experimented a little with Glyphs a few months ago on a trail subscription program. I was impressed...
