    Hello,

I am 90% complete building this tool for myself and am trying to determine if others would want it to. Whether or not it sounds like something you use, could you please provide a brief...

I have been on various environments where digital art is actually considered quite cool.

What I see is a chance to explore creativity, in many different ways.

    interesting work.
I would suggest toning down the highlights, and experimenting other colors on the type.

  • My site/portfolio crit

Hi all, I'd like some feedback on my site - it's primarily set up for potential employers to see my portfolio, but also for anyone who happens across it in case I can get some freelance work out of it.

I've been looking for full-time work for longer than I care to admit, so I'm wondering if there's something about my site that would turn people off... feel free to comment on any and all of it.

    Thanks much!!

    My advice, forgive the frankness:

Forget the welcome page. Just ditch it altogether. Make the first page the Portfolio.

You probably sent them an email saying, "hi I'm John I want to work for you, this is my portfolio" which is pretty much exactly what your welcome page is saying, which is redundant. Get your user to what you want them to see faster.

I'd like less grey text, at least for the headings.

"Miscellaneous" is a bad title for the first part of your work that they'll see. Call it "Print" or something, or put your favorite work at the top, if this is not already your favorite work.

I'd like to see bigger pictures of your work.

Change this: "Click image to visit website in a new window." Call it "Visit Website" and make it a link to the website. The user may naturally click on the image, assuming it's either a link to the website or a way to make it bigger. Putting instructions to look at something else on something that you expect the user to look at is counter-intuitive.

You're still using tables. Clients won't notice. Employers are not going to like this.

Navigating your work is a pain. Instead of "Home Portfolio Resume Contact" I'd put "Print Web Photography Resume Contact." Not exactly that, but you get the point. The majority of your content is in your portfolio, but it has equal footing compared to your resume and contact page. It's like having a bookshelf and cramming your 200 mystery books onto the top shelf, and giving your 2 sci-fi and 3 cookbooks on their own separate shelf.

Thanks for the frankness VD... much of what you said was about stuff I was considering changing, so that just let's me know I was on the right track.

Specifically for the home page, I was going to start my portfolio there, and then make an "about" page, and expand on what's currently on the home page.

And yes, I know tables are antiques... time to stop living in the past.
