I'm trying to turn this illustration into a gig poster but I wanted to see if there's anything you guys would like to say about it. It's not completely done yet, but I felt like it was a good point in time to ask for critique from others.

Be careful, there is some mild nudity there.

As you will see, there's no real typography on it yet, I really just want to know what your opinions are on the actual illustration.

    Go ahead!

I'm wondering why the bubbles are so different. Everything else looks like a clean vector, but those are blurry and smudged. Overall it's nice and colorful and visually interesting. Background is kind of boring.

I find the top half intriguing and interesting but I'm confused by the squiggly booby.

        I like it very much.
I agree about the bubbles--they don't need the soft edges. Keeping the same style throughout is the strength of the piece--the rendering of the gum is weakening it (some of the extra bits make it too much like spittle--gross)

I think the background treatment is unnecessary, you can go with a solid black (or other solid color) and it'd be fine if not better. Let that be negative space.

The definition of the right edge of the breast needs refinement too squiggly.

        very nice.

Did you draw the whole illustration yourself?

I like the abstract patterns in the background.

Didn't even notice the soft edges of the bubble until it was pointed out. it was more the general shape of it that put a question mark over my head. At first I thought she was sticking out a swollen tongue sporting colorful pustules. Probably just my perception.

Here's the updated version, I got rid of the bubbles all together because they didn't seem to fit regardless of what I did to them. Even removing the blur didn't do much.
I simplified the background, people seemed to be 50/50 on the background, they either really liked it or really didn't, so I came up with something that was neither solid black nor busy squiggly lines.

Finally, the "Live" part, was in reference to an event I was making the poster for, as in a live performance. Not a real event, mind you. It seemed like the poster could do without it, so I took it away.

And yes, this is my illustration.
              Thanks for all the input!
              Fire away guys,

Oops, forgot to add the image link. This is how you find out you can't edit posts!

Probably needless to say, but that's an absolutely beautiful illustration, and the typography you added fits perfectly. Fantastic!

The only thing that concerns me some is the breast and nipple. I'm actually a longtime fan of both, but from a practical standpoint, do they function to further or detract from the poster's intended purpose? The bare breast immediately focuses attention to the bottom of the poster at the possible expense of the incredibly nice things going on higher up in the illustration.

Maybe nudity is part of the show, and if so, it needs to be represented. If not, however, you've got an illustration that draws attention away from the best part of the drawing and focuses it squarely on something that might not warrant the attention.

The new version is lovely and my only quibble is that the smaller text is quite hard to read. You might need to make the small print bold so they are easier to read. Well done on the nice job.

I might also try and make the flowers coloured too. They look a little unfinished in black/white only.
It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" – Winnie the Pooh

Yeah, nice work and very nice type treatment... agree w <b> on the breast fighting w the face and hair - what if you just had a line - outline the profile of her breast, then it isn't such a strong shape.

                              Much improved.

                              Nice piece.
