  • Utility Industry Website Logo Feedback

    #1
My name is Lucas and I am the founding partner of a web based company for the Utility Industry called Utility Contractors Xchange LLC. I created this logo and wanted to get some feedback on how I did. I have incorporated the colors of the Universal Utility Locating Code into the logo. Please let me know your thought good or bad. Thanks in advance for your input.

Sorry mate, I don't get it, the concept is bland and the ostentatious colours just make that more apparent . TBH I'm not sure what you could salvage from this to make it work.

I clicked the wrong option. I was going to click option 4. Sorry.

I chose option 4, myself. Your website is amazing. I'm not sure if you created it, used a template, or paid someone, but it works really well. Your logo, on the other hand, is an eyesore, comparatively. It's out of place, the colors don't blend with the color scheme of the website (I doubt there's a color scheme out that would make it work), it's a design that looks like it was randomly thrown together without much thought and the style doesn't jibe with the site's design, either. It's a glaring inconsistency in your image. If you don't have the time to study basic graphic design theory and work at making this design right, then you should seriously consider hiring a professional to do it. You're so close to nailing your online presence, otherwise. You owe it to yourself to do what it takes to make it right.

Looking at your website it looks like you've already settled on this logo & don't need anymore opinions

Holy cow! Tough crowd so far. I get that you think my design sucks but to not offer any advice for an alternative or changes, makes it look like you just enjoy being negative to others. So thanks for replying but if your not going to contribute, please stick to voting in the polls.

Thanks for the feedback thedanballbrand. Great advice. We just launched the site 3 weeks ago. I created the concept and layout and the other partner did the coding. I agree he has done an excellent job. We both like the logo but have struggled with the colors and is why I thought I would ask for opinions from others. Our friends and family all think it's cool which carries very little weight since they are expected to be supportive. LOL. Thanks again.

Nothing more enjoyable than that. But as to your logo:

-photoshop bevel & emboss effects look dated & cheesy and should almost never be used

-you based colors on a Universal Code, which is not a good idea since every color of the rainbow is in there.

-there's ultrathin blue strokes around the letters. They won't print right and cause problems when enlarging or reducing the logo.

-the slogan is in generic black sans and has quote marks around it. Looks unbelievably tacky.

-the initials of the place are UCX, but your logo is UXC.

-there's no rationale behind the giant sharp-looking X. Neither does there seem to be any reason for all the color/black/white gradients

On the plus side, there's no drop shadows.

VDM, thank you for providing me with useful information. I greatly appreciate your detailed input. I was looking to create a logo that would catch someone's attention, but it sounds like it maybe catches to much attention and needs to be totally different. Thanks again.

You must not have worn your heavy sweater. Kitty will get you one.

I'm guessing this logo was designed in Photoshop. If so, that's your first mistake.

There are actually a lot of rules and guidelines for proper logo design. It's not just a cool image you slap on your website. Most of these rules are for printing and production purposes. An improperly designed logo can cost you a lot of money in the long run. The way your logo looks will determine how functional it is in your market, but how your logo is built will determine how functional it is for the ways it's going to be used.

I would get rid of the slogan altogether. "We Support the Utility Industry". Yeah, so does every other company that does what you do. How does that make you unique?

Good point on the slogan Sketcher. Thanks for the response. It is very helpful.
