  • Logo: FSI Design - Critique

    #1
    Hey,

I'm designing a new logo called "FSI Designs." FSI stands for Focus.Simplify.Innovate which is the philosophy of what the logo stands for. For this logo I'm going for something simpla and direct, but at the same time innovate in some sort of way. It's supposed to be slightly 3D but at the same time not to much so the 3D becomes distracting. Any all feedback is welcomed, Thanks.

The problem in giving yourself such a pretentious name is the ability to back it up. Now, i want to be 6 foot and handsome but, alas, however much i repeat it in the mirror, i'm not. The same goes for your logo. Says one thing, is another. Even without the name it's just boring and uninspired.

Like what Roth said, you're giving yourself a serious mountain to climb. You'd really want to understand the core principles and mentality needed to execute a logo with those requirements.

In it's current form, it doesn't really state it's mission. Giving it a sort of "3D" look is pretty irrelevant to the logo's aim. This might sound harsh, but if this is just a personal project, I'd try something more attainable.

If you have to resort to gradients to attempt to pull this off, you're doing something wrong. If it's not working in solid black and white, it's not working at all.

Focus - I would play off that... Blur the edges, bring your eye to a specific point. But have a specific focal point.

Simplify - Your logo is not simple enough. You should be going bare minimum if you want to portray that aspect of the company.

Innovate - keep sketching because I don't see much innovation.

Sorry for all the negatives... but hopefully that gets your wheels turning a bit.

Don't use any effects. No gradients, blurs, etc. You're trying to portray simplicity, but adding effects does the opposite. The type choice is boring an uninspired. I would also change Designs to Design. Design sounds much more professional.

I would also use the full text Focus, Simplify, Innovate instead of shortening it to FSI. The text is what should give the effect you intend and if someone has to sit there trying to figure out what FSI stands for, you're accomplishing the opposite of what the name implies.

Thanks for all your replies. It really does help. I felt like this concept was in its infancy and needed help with it. That's why I decided to upload it. I'll take all your ideas into account.

            Back to the drawing board.
