  • Venue logo

I've been asked to rebrand a club that has been open about a year now. They have some chap "doing up the posters and that" at the moment. Some times the logo is the venue name in Impact others in BrushScript - Posters are completely different every time... you get the picture.

I had a chat with the gaffers and suggested before going any further to settle on a logo and then follow on from there. They were very receptive and loved the thought having a recognizable look for their newspaper ads, posters etc.

So anyway, after much sketching and hair pulling I have come up with this (please see screen shot). The venue begins with the letter B and it is going to have cutting edge DJs and also live acts. The lines represent the strings on a guitar and the circles CD or record decks (If I had it my way it would only be vinyl decks! )

Any feed back, as always, very much appreciated.

Now that I look at it again now - I need another line and get the spacing right -
Also - do you think the lines are too thin?

The lines are a little thin, yes.

Nice idea but looks a little off. The counter of the 'b' traditionally lines up with the stem. So both your CD and letterform are just slightly wrong looking, even if the bits are the right place.

      And guitars have 6 strings.

Well that needs to be stamped out right now.

I'm still back on a club owner that didn't consider a branding standard as necessary to the success of the business...
Lucky to still be in business after a year.

If this logo is to be used in newspaper ads or on a visit card, the think lines will be distorted, nearly invisible and totally disappear in some cases. Also if you do need the lines, align them to something, like the top right corner, so that they are not just randomly crossing the line. As mentioned above, the circle looks offset, so to fix that you'll either have to make the slab thinner, or make the circle bigger.

Simplify where possible. Don't use 4 lines if you can say the same thing with 3. I think 3 thicker lines would be better than 4 thin lines.

I think it would be a good idea to work on this in conjunction with the full venue name.

As it is though, I quite like the simple retro vibe this has. Just simplify it a bit more so that it looks good at small sizes. Venue logos tend to be tiny on flyers and gig posters etc.

Hi - thanks for all your feedback. I had meant to put 6 lines in (Thanks Roth) but now I am thinking it would be better to make the lines thicker and have less - which begs the question is there a point if it no longer represents the strings of a guitar...

Heres another screen shot. The name of the venue is The B*E*NT*LEY (Stars to stop it showing up in searches) Three rooms of varied music.

Roth - am I getting the stem/counter balance right now?

I don't know how to put this lightly, it looks like a bastardized beats by dr dre logo. It doesn't really communicate variety (three rooms of varied music).

Also to better illustrate a CD, you need to adjust the proportion, the hole on a CD is about 1/8 of the diameter of the disc.

Blimey! You're right! Never noticed that - As for the CD it doesnt have to be 'anatomically' correct does it?

                          * Actually on a second look its not that much like Dre's - Mines WAY better! :P

Make sure your cd 'hole' is centered. It appears off in both versions (first one too far to the left, the second to the right).

I don't think it looks too similar, and it's a different industry, i.e., not headphone market.

There's lots of logos out there that have just a "b" and it's going to be hard to be so different that it doesn't look like some other logo somewhere.

Any why is that? I'm fairly new to this type of work/printing. I was a silk screener previously so I've had the program experience but I've always had to convert my designs to positives for textile printing....
