  • Logo Crit

After a few simpler ideas shot down in flames the clients decided they wanted a more anthropomorphic aspect to their logo. Not being the greatest illustrator in the world I nevertheless did a few sketches and have got this far.

They will be making a fitness videos that work muscle groups used in circus training.

You're right about the illustrator part. Your lines are very awkward and tense. Something really weird going on with the 'face' too.
Try sketching with a nib pen and think smooth and flowing. Stay away from the computer until you get it right.

Thanks for that PD even if your honesty stings a little - I will indeed go back to the drawing board - literally.

      Any other thoughts/Tips?

I'm afraid so - she was quite insistent with that

Go for something a bit stronger and less feminine. This looks like a logo for female hygiene products or something.

Seriously though, circus is one of the better words out there that you could design around. There is so much interesting imagery you could use. It's like you gave up before you began. Anthropomorphic is a great place to start, but you have a ways to go before you even touch the computer.

Start sketching. Pencil and paper. For exciting company name like Circus Body, I'd expect 100 thumbnail concepts without thinking too hard.

Try 200 hundred - and as I said - shot down

I will need to get back to the sketch pad...

Reminds me of the danskin logo, also a woman's way logo.

I agree with Buda - the circus has so much fabulous imagery, what about trapeze artists?

I personally love the concept and the illustration. But, as PD said, the lines should be more perfect. The person is a woman, right? I guess her hair should be more visible. Work on the face too. Overall, I think it's going to end up being a very good one. Keep working on it. Good luck

also, the black arm is just sort of ...anatomically weird.

I'm drooling about all the fonts, that you never get to use, that you could pair with this. Although some might work better as wordmarks, there's so much personality you could inject into this.

I think you might do well to focus on the production side of a circus.

Thank you Taeef - its nice to get some positive feedback even though all feedback is welcomed. Some I agree with and others I dont but all useful (apart from the Robocop reference - cheers Roth )

I agree - unfortunately its not my logo so I can merely make suggestions and then go with what the client wants.

I don't know if this is allowed here but I'm curious - what fonts are you thinking?

I haven't committed the names of the fonts to memory, I just see them in my font manager and dream for a couple seconds before I snap back to what I was looking for. Like something you'd see on iconic olde tyme circus signage, there are lots of elements to work with that you can dial back a bit to put a modern spin on it.
