I,m redesigning a map for a college assignment. I am lacking in hand rendered illustrating so im going to use typography to enhance the map. Here is some ideas i have for the head of the map and it will be part of the front cover. What 1 do you like best??

Unless its a logo consider the whole. Placing type down like this without consideration of the entire composition is meaningless.

I wouldent be asking if i dident have the layout of the whole map done. Im playing with the text from different parts of the map before i put pen to paper.

If you got the map done post some samples of this logo on the map.

I'm leaning towards 2 because the others are annoying/hard to read.

Probably because you are working in vector (clean edges) and post as a jpg.

Don't worry about it, we get the idea.

I think it's because the forum does not allow pictures wider than 683 pixels, and the original image is 756 pixels. Therefore it's being resized, resulting in jagged edges.

maybe if you squint it'll get better.

There are a lot of kerning issues with each one.

Print them out and turn them upside and you should see what I'm talking about.

Particularly on number two the lower type has large tracking issues in addition to the kerning.

Furthermore, I would recommend loosing the stroke on number one. The stroke is making the knockout even more difficult to read.

In most cases, the G looks like a C in the logos posted.

I dont want to sound rude, but where are you looking. If your seeing a C where it should be a G then theres somthing wrong with your screen.

Also be careful when using a drop cap in a logo. The G is much heavier than the rest of the type, that makes it visually unpleasing. Also, the rendering of the cemetary you are doing is nothing like the actual logo they have on their site. When it comes to reproducing a brand try to stay as loyal to the brand as you can, this will allow you to be a little more free with the rendering of "Walkaround Guide". Being it's a college assignment you probably don't have access to the true logo, but it looks as if you can find a font close enough to it on the web somewhere.

I didn't mean to say it actually was a C, just that it was not prominently a G to me. I would try and make that difference a little stronger.
