welcome to the GDF....

Sorry if this is to honest

when I clicked the link I looked around and went to the bottom right links....messed around couldnt find where to go.... then I clicked on the banner image (purely by luck)

I found no place for my eyes to go to....the whole page blends to much....the little scrolling images didnt load....I eventually scrolled down and gave up

your missing basic fundimental things like usability....i could find my way around....
visual hyarchy where is your eye travel....? where does it actually travel???

the site does need to be poppy and bring and cheery to draw people in....but you do need to have a plan of attack of where you want people to go

the splash page or whatever the first thing was very badly needs a makeover....a simple click here to anything would help....

I think lose the splash page.

The design of the main page is really promising - colours and visual elements are great!

I also like the feeling of space in your layout.

I agree with Perm it doesn't seem to be structured right. I almost get the feeling that it's not displaying properly in my browser although it may be. For example, the third vertical white line in the main background is very near the right edge of the screen and draws my eye to it, but it kind of looks like it might be a mistake.

Thanks so much for helping. I'll fix it up. I never did test it in any other screen resulutions so maybe I should think about that..

It takes too long to load.

If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done.

Never put off till tomorrow what you can avoid all together.

One problem I see is my eye immediately goes to your links to affilate pages graphic. You want to try and keep users inside your site for as long as possible, so maybe move that section to the bottom. Also, make something eye-catching like that the top of the page to grab the users' attention and draw them into your content.

Overall, though, I think you have a good start.

Phoenix,

Yes, I would lose the splash page. It's a little confusing and doesn't serve a lot of purpose. I noticed in your .css file you have hover set to 'Cursor: move', which confuses people when they don't see the familiar 'hand' before clicking.

On the main page, I think your color combination and text layout is good. You just need to reduce the size of that huge picture and make it act as part of the page instead of a heading!

K, ditch the spash page all together. Nobody likes an incooprative spash page... I did have a bit of trouble figuring out where I was supposed to go there. Either lose the spash page, or re-evaluate your design there to make it more effective.

As for your home page, the graphic is very nicely done, although, IMO, it's too big. If you shrink your window down to 800x600, all you can see is the graphic. You need to add more content into that top 800x600 area of your home page... that's prime real-estate. The meet & potatoes of the site need to be there. First and foremost, you need to bump your navigation up into that area, and maybe of your content.

I love the image you've got there... very poppy and nicely done. You may be able to tweak some of the transparency on that image (gradient fade maybe?) to get the body copy and nav text to work there.

1 more thing: The negative space out to the right of the page. You might want to incorporate some sort of bgcolor there as well. You've got a really nice color scheme going, but in larger browser windows, the white space can hurt your color scheme. It would help the overall look if you somehow incorporated that area into your design.

i cant read the page content because the nav menu color is too bright and distracting.
i hate the HUGE banner that you have to scroll through to see the page content. do you really want people to have to scroll jsut to see whats on the page? or do you jsut want them to see the header and 'affiliates' ?
needs some work but it has potential, 1st thing tho, get rid of the ugly header, and change the color of the nav menu.

I still say go for the screwpost book. It may seem expensive, but its flexibility outweighs the extra cost, IMO. If it's out of date in 6 months, you can spend $2.60 per page to add to it or to replace...

The key you want is the grave accent key. It is the shortcut for Maximize or Restore Frame Under Cursor.
