If you're using the webspace merely to host your webiste, and nothing else, then you will not require a large space. Whatever you have in your space has to be easily downloaded by the public, after all.

Thus, under 100MB will suffice. If you plan on using your webspace for anything else, ie, hosting files such as proofs, PDFs, and EPS's for clients to download, then you will require more. How much more all depends on the traffic of projects, and the size of the projects you have.

If you are planning on doing any of your work over the internet, then I would say that FTP transfer space should be a requirement. Why should somebody in Dallas wait 5 days to get a CD mailed in from his designer in Virginnia, when it could've been transferred over the web in 15 minutes!

Of course, this suggestion is also sound for local clients, though the possibility of working solely by CD actually exists in this case.

What kind of work do you do? Are you doing any large format, and if so, do you use all vector art, or some raster imagery? Do you do any kind of multimedia, video, or audio work?
All this needs to be taken into account if you decide to transfer any files through your webhost (via FTP/HTTP) for your clients, to determine how much space you will require. If, on the other hand, you decide to stick with strictly the website and use the space for nothing else, then 100MB is the maximum you will need.

go with www.bluehost.com. They are probably the best in my opinion. Also one of the best rated too. Never had any problems, and they have loads of features. I'm a webdesigner so Im reeeaaally weary of who i host with. I strongly recommend these guys.

DO NOT, DO NOT go with lunarpages. they are the absolute worst. (im not the only one that thinks this...just google 'lunarpages suck' and check out what people say!)

also, dont use godaddy. They're cheap because they sell your info. Other people I know have always had problems dealing with them.
