  • Review: my graphic and web design site.

    #1
Hi, I'm new here. Here's a site that I made that will have my work on it and tell people what I do, etc. Some of the sections are blank for now until I come up with some content/portfolio pieces for them. Let me know what you think please. http://www.mattmdesign.com

    Thanks, Matt

i don't know about that green .... maybe personal preference, but i just don't like that green. why the 2 menus on the home page? i think one would suffice. i'll have more comments when i can take a look at the site for a bit longer. but these were the 2 things that stood out to me right off the bat.

you have the flash skills you need to tighten up the photoshop skills....

the site looks kinda dated look around the internet at new trends and freshen up the look... I am not a fan of that neon green either...

your site doesnt have to be 'trendy' to have a fresh look

www.netdiver.net/portfolios/ - here are some great sites

'yes here is your logo' - zartan
'um dont like it can you add a swoosh?' - zartan
'No I am the designer bitch now pay your bill!' - zartan

Ha, I was thinking 'good morning' when I saw it (the green woke me up) and I guess everyone else agreed... well... like I was saying to a friend who was trying to design a site... it is not new enough looking... it looks so 2001... which with the web is old, heh.

Yeah, I agree too. Very skilled, but needing a bit of a style update. There's no flash here, but check out cssvault.com for some killer leading edge design.

Whoa! Cool flashback with that night-vision green!!!

Nice portfolio pieces. I suppose we'll have to do something with that gree....

Say, I've had a thought. Your actual GD work is good enough to stand on its own. What if you simplify the opening bit and the menu and get right into some of that excellent design work. Most viewers are so impatient, you'll likely lose them unless your 'Creative' opening is extraordinarily compelling.

You're very close on having a an extra sharp site - you made the right move getting input from this crowd. They will help you a great deal.

And remember what Will Shakespeare said about Donuts! 'Never shame to hear what you have nobly done'

I made up the Donut part. I'm just thinking about Donuts right now...

Thanks for your feedback. I'm sure it will be useful. As for comment within a comment, do you think that's necessary? Sounds like a major thread hijack

I know the forum is in a state of flux but thought I'd make some comments about it anyway.

Yep, I would pencil sketch the basic shape and then use a black fibre tip pen on top. Kerm's suggestion of scanning and live tracing the result is good too.
