Anybody know how to fix the "box" that IE puts around an HR element? I'm using CSS to apply a background image to a design and it works except for that. I've tried setting border: 0 and even applying the same color background to it that matches the color of the background behind it. No go. Any help? Thanks!

hmm, I never had that problem. Could you screen shot for us?
You could also use a div with a "border-bottom:" for css.

I've got code to make a normal flat line.

Using a background image is... tricky.
The {color} property controls the rule's color in IE6/7. If your rule has any height to it, you will get a big thick line.
I had this same problem this week, my final solution was to stick IE6 and 7 with a normal line by setting height to 0 and using padding to push out the background image so other browsers see it right.
Most people just end up using a div. Sorry I couldnt be any more help. Fortunately IE8 fixes this nonsense.

Thanks guys. I think for sake of having to reinvent the wheel, I'm just going to scratch the HR tag and go with the old DIV standby. Seems a little easier to make more cross-browser compliant. Thanks for the info guys!
