    Hi guys, hope you can help.

    I'm designing a website. My background colour is a kind of lilac colour. I've got title banners which I obviously want to blend in with the background colour. But for some reason when I upload it, the banner colour looks much darker.

    The background colour I have for this banner here....



    ...just isn't matching up with the wallpaper background colour I have for the rest of the website:

    I don't know if it's just my computer. I'm on an imac. When I gave the link to my friend who has a PC, he says the banner is the same colour and blends in perfectly.

    The hex codes match. They're identical. #8b6c96, so I don't understand what it is that's going wrong here. It's driving me nuts.

    Is it just a prob with my comp, or is everyone else seeing this too?

      it blends nicely for me... but I am on a PC too. (Firefox 3.5.3)

        Is the image CMYK? That could cause a lot of issues...

          Hi guys, thanks for the quick replies.

          No it's not CMYK. Thought I'd made a mistake with that too, but no.

          Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing. Does this look OK too? Have a look...

            Try using a web safe color for the background and see if that helps. I believe the closest it #996699...

              Just tried it with the web safe #996699, but I'm still getting the same problem. This is just bizarre.

              So is anyone here seeing the same thing as me? If so, please let me know!

                I see the two different tones as posted above. Darker boxes behind the logo and email addy's as well as the random box under the Fax info.

                I am on a Mac viewing on Firefox 3.5.3 and also on Safari 3.2.1.

                  You wouldn't happen to have highlighted the logo? When I do it I get a purply background like you're getting.

                    Save the image as a gif without a background color in the image.

                      Yes, I put it into photoshop, there's a definite shift.

                        mmm Looking like a Mac issue ... I'm getting same problem here..

                        Checked in Firefox and Safari ... same issue.

                        Can't you just create the banner with a transparent background and save as a .png?

                        That should fix it.

                          I'm on Windows and though it's not as pronounced as your screenshot, I also see the color shift. Saving as a jpg will do that as it's not intended for large areas of flat color. Follow Ckret's advice and save it as a gif with a transparent bg using the wallpaper's bg color as your matte. You can also save as a transparent png if you're not concerned with IE6.

                            Yea, I think saving it with a transparent background is the safest option. Just tested it in fact, and it's working perfectly. No problems. I'll just do that from now on.
