  • Embeded fonts

    #1
I am redesigning a website for a local health spa, and one of their distributors have a really slick site. They also have some kind of system for embedding custom fonts.

You can see an example of it here:
    http://www.rockymountainsoap.com/pro...032575/1000144
(where it says "Natural Perfume" and the sub heading underneath it.)

I'm trying to figure out how they did it but I have no idea. I've seen embedded fonts that allow you to select the whole word at a time, but not individual letters like this...

Since the type is selectable, this is really appealing to website designers who are stuck using the same couple of system fonts originally.

Does anybody have any insight into how they might have got this to work? I'm sick of having to create images/flash animations just to use custom fonts.

I'm no web person, but when I right click on that it shows up as Flash, which I know lets you embed fonts and make them selectable.

hmm, my computer doesn't mention anything about flash on that section of the website (stupid work computers, if I saw it was flash I would have made the connection).

        Thanks for the help everyone.

          I'm 99.9% certain it's the sifr replace.

neat. I didn't know it was partially flash based.

                  I learned something today!

Ah, so it is flash based. My bad. Sorry to add confusion. I'm sticking to the print threads form now on.

                      Me too Craig *LOL*

Playing with it a bit, it looks like it's just that top little section that's actually flash, the rest is your regular ol' code (so only the header and sub head are flash). So does it work that that sIFR command is part of the small .swf header file? That's how I'm understanding this.

yeah, it seems that it is sifr. After someone mentioned sifr I found javascript in the source code that had "sifr" in the file name.

Thanks for the help everyone. Book is closed on this one.

Like the others have said, there is definitely something missing in telling this story.

I'm deadline driven, the timeline is the first I ask about when discussing a project with a client. It's either feasible or it isn't and there is no point in discussing the project if the timeline isn't...

I would suggest purchasing the fonts yourself.

I'm assuming from "I got a family of fonts from a design firm" that probably didn't pay for/get the licensing to use them on your...
