  • graphic/web color display problem

    #1
I have a color issue that's driving me crazy.

I just uploaded part of a page on a new site i'm working on just to make sure the nav looked ok on all browsers.

What i noticed is that the colors of my graphics look true to my original design on Safari but horrible on Firefox. Firefox displays the colors significantly lighter than they should be and i can't figure out why. Every other site i visit looks virtually identical in safari and firefox.

I am designing the site in illustrator cs2 and then copying and pasting each graphic element into photoshop cs2 where i save for web.
I haven't changed any of my color settings - illustrator and photoshop both set to the default sRGB IEC61966-2.1

I am completely baffled at this point, so any help is appreciated.

here is a link to the test page i am working on. it only has a menu at the top and part of a background image:

Why aren't you saving for web/exporting directly out of Illustrator?

Are you working in CMYK colour space in Illy or RGB?

Try running the PNGs through a compressor like PNGMonster

yep, i just needed to run it through a png compressor to strip out all the metadata. finally found a mac compatible program: http://pornel.net/imageoptim/en

I had never heard of this - thanks!!!

if the graphic is saved with a color profile attached to it, this problem will occur.

the compressors strip out the color profile data and magically you have the same colors. But all you really need to do is save without a color profile.

I imagine there's all sorts of fan art out there in this style for inspiration. You already have the banner templates, so just find an interesting way of using them. It doesn't have to be overly complicated...

Good points, although I'm unsure how to correct this without starting it all over from scratch and scrapping the whole idea. I'll have to think about it.

Yes, I got the general idea from my copy of Gulliver's Travels.

I had hoped that I could convey the seasons with the colors and leaves, with the greens representing Summer and Spring and...

If using precut paper, no bleed or trim.

I can't see the image because of the new upgrade. Do they like it?

Unfortunately I don't have access to any other programs, gah. Question about crop marks...are they necessary? This may sound like a silly question, but for the invitations, the design itself is very simple...
