  • Path problem when trying to colour wreath.

I recently made a Wreath in illustrator using the tutorial found here: http://vectips.com/tutorials/laurel-...n-illustrator/
Unfortunately when i get to the part where i change the colour, something weird happens to the paths and screws up everything, I have no idea what is causing it or how to fix it.
I Will link some screenshots to show what i mean.
BEFORE trying to change the colour: http://imgur.com/i83iddp
    AFTER changing the colour: http://imgur.com/Bo33xE0
    Someone please help!

The path is a stroke, so if you fill it with a color you get this result. Select the path and go to the Object menu > path > Outline path and apply the fill color.

Thankyou so much, i am very new to illustrator and attempting to teach myself.

what I wish to do is to be able to select the stem all, leaves and other side of wreath to change their color as one object, is that possible?
