  • Photoshop Beginners Guide

    #1

    Hi all

I've got a requirement to supply some students with a 'Beginners Guide to Photoshop'. We're not talking how to do flashy effects with filters of create guassian blurs... What I need is a set of really basic instructions from an absolute begginers point of view. Like how to open a file, how to duplicate a layer, how to cut and paste selections, Levels, Hue/Saturation etc etc.

Does anyone here know of any online resources that could be printed and given as a handout? PDF maybe?

    Thanks if you can help!

    Mark

Heh... I'm always promoting this guy's site because his tutorials are very detailed and beginner-friendly. Mike's Sketchpad - Photoshop
If you decide to use them, please make sure you contact the author for permission on reproducing and distributing his articles.

I doubt you can find it online. Most people who look for photoshop tutorials online already know how to open files.

If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done.

Never put off till tomorrow what you can avoid all together.

PS for dummies?? Is there a book called that? That would prolly be the BASIC that you need, ya think? Other than that, I got nothin! I can't think of anything that is as basic as you need other than you writing it yourself, which make actually take lass time than looking for something - hehehe

What version of Photoshop are you going to use with these students? The help files that come with PS are about as basic as it gets. How computer savvy are your students?

The students are reasonably au fait with Windows

              They're complete no0bs at Photoshop

The Help files will only confuse them as they don't know what to look for in the first place!

OK now though, I've produced one myself!

              Thanks!

If you're still looking for help, I recommend video samples. Rather than confusing a noob with new terms and explainations . . . show them how to do particular things, with verbal descriptions of each stage.

Try Lynda.com - you can view movies of photoshop basic (the interface, tools, etc),and if the students find them useful, they can purchase the actual CD with more advanced video samples.

There's a link to their Learning Adobe Photoshop CS sample movies here: http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=87

                Hope this helps.
