  • Flash Button / MovieClip Query

You will have to excuse me for being a complete Flash dunsky here. I'm slowly trying to teach myself the program but the rate that I am learning in realation to the rate I have to finish stuff isn't jiving.
What I am trying to do is have a button which when clicked sets off a simple animation and then stops. The animation is completely independent of the actual button. I've been messing around with the scripting and have come up with nothing. Can anyone help me out with the scripting? I understand the concepts of animation in Flash, it's just the mechanics behind the buttons that have me stumped. Thanks muchly for any help.
I've uploaded what I have up to this point at www.hbxcontrols.com/New/header_animation.html

i think the easiest way for you to do this, (but might not necessarily result in the smallest file size), would be to make your movie and either a) make it a symbol with the first keyframe blank. then, on your button, you put the action 'on press>go to and play>symbol' (<-don't copy & paste that! if you've got your actions window on normal - not expert - those fields will be pretty easy to fill in!). in your symbol, make sure to put a 'go to>frame 1>& stop', or else the symbol will loop.

    OR

you could do roughly the same thing, but with a different scene.

personally, i'd have the movie clip, depending on it's size, externally linked...but i won't be able to explain it to you until the 2nd week of august. big perm and case and i think axoi are all a bit flashy, so see if you can hit them up for proper advice. what you want is TOTALLY do-able though.

pm me if you need more insane ramblings.

    luck!

Thanks very much, your suggestion worked marvelously darling. You should start taking a cut off of all of these peoples salaries that you help out on a daily basis. You could be the Mo Green of the graphic design world.

      Thanks again.

          Buda edited it for you.

Like the forum FAQ says, you have a very limited amount of time to edit your posts, 15 minutes to an hour, depending on when the servers cycle.
