  • eliminating a background on a raster image in adobe illustrator 10.0

    How do you eliminate the background on a scanned image brought into illustrator? I am trying to avoid recreating the image by tracing.

    It would be much easier to use Photoshop since it's a raster image.

      You can do it in Illy but you still have to use the Pen tool. Create a path that follows the contour of your image then select image, and path then goto Object>clipping mask>make (might just be called Mask, they changed it somewhere along the line to CS).

      Seems like I've written that same answer 4 times this week.

      Otherwise do what Ryan said and bring it into photoshop. If you have PS7 use the mask function or try the extract.

        yea... wow doing that in AI would be torturous but doable if you ware willing to path it out. In ps though, depending on colors and contrasts it can be a 5 min job or a 5 hour job. If you want a silo, then do it in PS and export to AI.
