  • Illustrator CS4 - portrait/landscape?

    #1
I've just started using CS4 and I used to be able to rotate my canvas by going to file>document setup and changing my canvas to either portrait or landscape, but it's not there in CS4 now.

How do I change the orientation of the page in CS4?

Simply swap the width and height values with each other.

Now that a document can contain as many art boards as you wish and they can be of different sizes and orientations the old landscape/portrait switch is no longer applicable. Go to the document setup and then click on the edit art boards button. Then you can drag it to the proper orientation that way. If you leave the Smart Guides on (they are really useful now) it is really easy to get it just the right size and orientation.

Wow, I need to get Illy open. I've been working with InDesign and learning Fireworks (much easier now that it's more Adobe-like). Thanks for the tips.

          Found it!

OK, to change orientation or preset WHILE on a document already open:

File >> Document Setup >> Edit Artboards >> (hit return)

After adjusting the artboard manually, I must have hit return in the process by accident and found the dialog box I needed. Hope this helps, google brought me here last week and this recent discovery was the main reason for me to sign up.

I posted this in the "Ultimate Illy Resource Thread." You might also have a peek at it.

Thanks! That helped me eliminate a step or two:

Just double click on the square icon (Artboard Tool) next to [or above] the Slice Tool,

or hit Shift+O and then return.

Oh good! I'm glad I could help!

I've been meaning to spend more time with Illy CS4. Most of my time has been catching up Indy & PS and learning Fireworks.

Just in case you didn't notice

When you follow Randy's instructions below you will notice a small tool bar which usually shows up at the bottom left of the open page. When you click "edit artboard" it will now correspond to page layout and allow you to simply click on a small image of a Portrait vs. Landscape page - another quick way to flip orientation.
One of those ridiculously simple things that seems like an impossible road block until you know where to find it!

                  Cheers!
