  • Adobe Help Viewer! D:< Argh!

    #1
wtf is with this damned Adobe Help Viewer, and why does it keep popping up in the middle of my working in Photoshop CS3 until I have to shut down the whole frickin' program because every time I close this annoying Adobe pop-up, it just opens itself up again (the process uses up a whole 22MB of memory every time, too), then sometimes I even get a million "We shut down an unresponsive program, would you like to report it?" boxes from the OS as well.

What a pain in the rear end. What the heck was Adobe thinking? I know where the damn Help file is if I needed it.

Adobe should try making a virus... they'd be very good at it.

Argh... Then to make matters worse, when I reopen Photoshop I have to relog into the network because Photoshop is bugging me about registering, as if I just ran the program for the first time. *sigh*

Nope, it's just on top of a desk, but when I'm working my fingers tend to fly all over the keyboard, 'cause I believe in high-efficiency production with no time wasted. I have no idea what I'm pressing that makes that thing pop up.

        "That's what she said."

        I had to.

Could you be accidentally hitting CMD or CTRL + / ? That opens the viewer...
This post is brought to you by the letter E and the number 9. Those are the buttons I push to get a Twix out of the candy machine.

Hmmm... Weird, I can't think of any keys near that area I would be using, but if that's the key combo, then that must be what I'm hitting.

Oh, that might be it, Agent! It's awful close to my delete key when I'm typing out filenames... I think that seems to be when it pops up.

Thanks! I'll watch out for that next time... That's probably what I'm hitting. I wish they made keyguards I could put over a key I don't want to use.

I did a quick googe on the Help Viewer and I read a lot of complaints, with nobody being able to offer a way to uninstall it. Not that I would be able to uninstall anything on this particular work computer anyways.

EDIT > KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS...might that help?

I have one of the Mac aluminum keyboards, the Fkeys work differently...

Oh, wait, duh, you're on a PC aren't you Ned?

Yip, PC. I'll give that a try tomorrow though, it might still work.

Heh... I was going to try remapping the keyboard shortcut for the Help Viewer today, but I realized that I don't know where the GUI access to it would be, so I can find its function in the Keyboard Shortcuts editor.

By the way... Did you know that this thread already shows up 1st page in Google when you search "Adobe Help Viewer"?

On Mac it's in the HELP menu...

I was saying F12 because, like in my original question, if your keyboard is on an under table tray or in front of a monitor stand sometimes you push it forward and accidentally hit the F12 key with the table/tray.... Thus launching the Help Viewer.

As for your want of a "keyboard protector", slice a notch into a business card and stand it between the F12 key and the delete key. After about a week of hitting the card you will train your brain where the delete key is and not your F12 key.

                          lol... good plan, Agent!

@ Garricks: The HELP menu was the first place I looked, and it wasn't there. I suppose that would've been too obvious a place for them to put it. Where's the fun and adventure in that?

I guess that's why Macs are more expensive, Ned. They take the time to make sure things are in logical places.

Note: The CC updates were released this morning. On a Mac, you must be running Lion or greater (10.7 or 10.8) to run Photoshop. I'm not sure about the other apps yet.
