  • Acrobat: Page Range in Headers/Footers

    #1
I posted this in a PDF forum, but the replies tend to be slow in there and I kinda would like to know WFT sooner than later. Figured it couldn't hurt to toss it into here as well. Using Acrobat 8 Professional on a Leopard machine.

I've been trying to add various chapter names to the footer of a 700+ page document. I've added a header with the title, and a footer with the proper page numbers. But every time I go back and use the page range feature to place the chapter name on only say, pages 43-76, it starts the pagination at 1 instead of 43. The chapter name changes as it should, but I end up with 'chapter one' on pages 1-42 (which is right), and then 'chapter two' is pages 1-33. The page numbers are still correct in the Page pane, but the page range for the footers always overwrites this, and I can't figure out how to get it to number the pages correctly.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Ugh, I spoke too soon. After watermarking the second chapter, the third chapter starts with chapter two's pagination. It doesn't change the page numbers in the footer (which is good), but the actual page numbers in the Page pane change. If I watermark in the third chapter name, it overlaps chapter two's name. It's entirely retarded. I'll try making each chapter start a section and force the Page numbers back the right ones right before I watermark in the name. We'll see.

PS, feel free to comment so I don't feel like I'm talking to myself here.

I spoke too soon too! You posted while I was still reading! Unfortunately I have no idea, I don't use acrobat but I'm sure if you googled your question, yahoo may have some answers :P

I had tried that. Everything I seemed to find was just a tutorial about how to add the footers/headers. One thing was a forum post from someone running into a similar problem, put the answer to his issue wasn't helpful for my situation. I found others with issues more like mine, but there didn't seem to be any answers.

Seems to be working so far, I just have to keep an eye on the pagination and make sure it's not changing it on me.

              Buda edited it for you.

Like the forum FAQ says, you have a very limited amount of time to edit your posts, 15 minutes to an hour, depending on when the servers cycle.
