  • InDesign Question about Styles

    #1
At work we do a ton of envelopes and the basic setup is always 10pt Helv B for line 1 and 10pt Helv Med for the rest. I am trying to setup a style that will do this for me. I am able to setup the individual styles under the character styles and then highlight line 1 and apply the one style and highlight the rest and apply the other style. What my question is...is if it is possible to setup a paragraph style that will done both those steps in one click? I tried the nested styles but that failed me. Maybe someone can give me a suggestion on how to set it up. Thanks!!

It is possible-- and you're right, it's with nested styles. As soon as my copy of ID CS arrives (we HAVE ordered it!), I hope to figure it out too! There was a good tutorial on the Adobe Studio site on this I read a while back. Might want to sniff around there to see if it's still there.

Thanks Broacher. I'll look into that.

not sure how it works, was set up for us but our lineage is set up in a similar way(always bolder text first thenroman or less bold, along those lines anyway) the way it work here is that the copy is tagged somehow from the database and we set up the style sheet in ID and then the copy is placed formated already(well almost the fonts and sizes etc are right just got a few other things to sort out, i don't know anything about how they tagged the copy but it could be something to look into.

Set up two character styles. 'TopLine' containing the values for 10pt Helv B
Then 'Rest' using the setup for 10pt Helv Med.

Then Create a new paragraph style. Under Drop Caps and Nested Styles, choose New Nested Style. Under Character Style, choose 'TopLine' then on the last option, change it from 'Words' to 'Sentence'.

Now just apply the style to your paragraph, and make sure that after you type the first line to press <ctrl> <enter> together to do a force line break.

As a printer, if I change a file for a design client, I know the color won't shift. But. If the design client sends an entirely new file, I check it to be sure the color won't shift. There are so many...

I think I am getting a bit better with the pen tool, but let me know if you see where I can improve? Also, if there are areas to improve the illustration style, thanks?...

This is something I made in my free time.

I'm not planning on going to art school or anything like that, but I still like drawing and designing, so I'm planning on doing it as a side thing....
