  • thin LIne appears around IMage in PDF

    #1
    Hello,

    Tom here... greetings to all.
I am having a puzzling little thing happen and wondering if anyone knows what may be causing it. I work in packaging design for a food company and am presently working on a project in which I am placing some images from photoshop into illustrator for a new package design. The food shot has been silohetted, so obviously the background is transparent with the food shot appearing to be floating. Everything is great except when I save the file as a PDF... A thin black outline appears around the image in the PDF file ON SCREEN... I have never had this happen before.... any clues as to why?... this line does NOT appear in the illustrator file or if I export as a JPeg. it is only in the PDF and ONLY on screen ( not when I print the pdf ). I need to use PDFs in the workflow with others, so having the appearance accurate is important...

thanks for any help or insight

Does the black line appear when it's printed and are you sure that the image has been clipped correctly in Photoshop?

Are you sure you have Overprint Preview on?

NO, it does not appear when printed.. only on screen. I have used PS quite a bit but certainly not a photoshop expert, I cannot day for sure if I clipped it correctly. I used quick select tool as well as regular eraser and background eraser to remove areas around the silo that I wanted to elminate. I kept a separate opaque ( white ) background, whch I have deselected, so that it does NOT appear. I looked in layers panel and rmoved any uneeded paths... not sure what else I shoul be doing

It might be a transparency flattening issue, Acrobat Compatibility 1.4 and below flattens all transparency. Try saving as Acrobat Compatibility 1.5 or above to retain live transparencies.

The problem is when I view a PDF ( not in Illustrator ). I am using overprint preview in Illustrator and the image and entire Illstrator file looks perfectly fine and normal in Illustrator. It's when I save as PDF from ILlustrator and then view the PDF outside of Illustrator that this outline appears aroudn the place image.

What are you using to view the PDF? Is it a 3rd Party application like Apples PDF reader or something else?

I have CS4, so I am using all adobe products, including acrobat pro for viewing and working with pdfs...

However, I just started from scratch with original image and suddenly do not have the problem now! I must have done something wierd when sizing, flattening, or converting to cmyk that I did not realized I did.

thanks to all who offered help. as I do appreciate it.

                    Good day to all!

That's been a "feature" of Acrobat for a long time :-) I've always seen fine lines around images onscreen, but it never prints.
