Just curious: what' s this for? And are you talking raster stuff from CorelPAINT or vector/type from CorelDRAW?

The person I am doing this for wants an rgb separation to create a plate from each separation for printing. This question was asked during an interview at a printers so it could be a trick question, but its stumped me so much that I have to find out. I thought the final print was always created in cmyk. The graphic in the test was a scanned business card (rgb 300dpi) 8 up on an a4 page in corel draw.

O... kay. So this must be for screen printing, or some other opaque process. Well, the easiest way is to convert the RGB to multichannel DCS. If you want to go with a pre-separated workflow that is. For handling, it might even be easier if you just use 'split channels' and save each off as a greyscale.

OTOH, if you want to preserve a more flexible composite workflow, you could take that multichannel, add a blank 'black channel' (the R, G, and B get renamed to Cyan, Magent and Yellow, BTW) and then mode change to CMYK (keeping track of the fact that C=Red, M=Green, Y=Blue).

Gotta read up on spot colours my friend if you want to get past this 'separation anxiety'.

Ugh. Terrible production choices. If there's any find edge, or small type, the edges will suffer from the halftoning and it's likely that the black type will be a register nightmare. If this is the kind of printer you're applying to, maybe it's just as well you missed that question.
