i've done sound in studio with ultra fancy-pants gear that i forget the name of, and i've also just captured sound off of the cruddy mic that came with the pc. because it's just for web, and will be supercompressed anyways, you shouldn't need big fancy software...you may be able to just get away with whatever sound capture/rec device already on your machine. i know somebody else will have a different opinion, but this is for the dog-thing, right? you won't need the bells and whistles.

i've always just used premiere when working on audio for web, because that's what i know. i forget the names of the other programs but again, for this quality of sound, it shouldn't matter. hell, you can edit and compress in flash if you have to.

is that too cheap and nasty for all y'all?

Are you on a Mac? If so, you can use the super-inexpensive, yet alarmingly-powerful GarageBand from Apple. All you would need to do is plug a mic into your Mic In port on the CPU. Unless you are using an iMac (newer type) which has a mic already in the monitor portion of the system.

I believe you can then export the audio to iTunes and re-export from there to Quicktime to create an MP4, which will work with Flash.

I, personally, use Digital Performer and have a few friends with actual recording studios in their homes to work with.

        Hope this helps.

You can get a decent mic for about $9 at Walmart. I'm not sure if it's compatible with Mac though. And I use the free 3D MP3 Recorder. Goldwave is also a good audio tool. If you are on Mac, then well, I can't help you.

If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done.

Never put off till tomorrow what you can avoid all together.
