I have InDesign. But we have many years' worth of archives in Quark and an Art Director who's very VERY resistant to change of any kind.

I have 7.31, the other two print designers are on 8. Mac 10.5.8.

I see. My 6.5 is all sorts of out of whack since I went to Win 7. I figured maybe you could drop some knowledge.

I have 6.5 at home on my old XP (my husband has inherited it). I bought a Win7 machine last year and opted not to try installing Quark on it since I wasn't sure how it would handle the 64-bitness.

All the stuff I read and tech support told me I'd have to run it in XP mode. I coulnd't get that to work so I said to hell with it and installed it. It has screen redrawing issues and printing to the plate setter's really iffy. Not the end of the world but pretty damn annoying.

I have CS4 on the new one, so I really haven't needed Quark on it. I just keep it on the old machine juuuust in case I need to access an older Quark file. Other than that, I'm done with Quark for home use. Not worth the $ when I have InD.

Yeah, very similar to my situation.

Mine even does logos, webpages in Quark. Doesnt seem to understand the work involved in converting them to Illy or PS.

Ahem... not ALL old dogs are incapable of learning new tricks. Not ALL Art Directors are technically-challenged...

Brings up an interesting point though; Are the Art Directors (you deal with) generally nim-rods when it comes to the technicalities and restrictions of their mediums?

                Just curious.

When I become an art director I wanna make sure my skills are up to date.

Yeah. Its a terrible state of affairs.
He'll also do every version of a logo in one file - the CMYK one, PMS one, B+W one, all on one canvas. Then he'll just move the picture around within the frame and - hey presto! - its a PMS job.

You could use most any 3D application, but something like this would be easy enough to do in Photoshop.
