• What Digital Camera would you recommend?

#1
I'm looking into buying a digital camera for my graphic design business and would like to know what types of cameras you all prefer. Mainly, I would like to take pictures of newborns, florals, and such. This means that I have to be able to take very crisp pictures at a very close range. Furthermore, I take a lot of indoor pictures, so I need something that renders great quality under less light. My older digital camera doesn't cut it anymore.

Thanks for all your input.

im using a sony f717 right now, although I have seen the comparisons of canon vs sony, and canon seems to have less pixelation under low light so that might be your best bet. I would suggest typing in camera reviews in google, their are some great websites out there that compare every little thing on a camera. I love mine!!

first of all welcome.
then check this post http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/de...=8&m=74102

And now my advice:

10X zoom, think about optical, not digital.
more than 5 Megapixel will be cool.
a lot of manual controls that will able you to take photos with technique.
a big memory (about 256Mb)
Ipreffer cameras with AA bateries, not propietary.

well and if you can buy a reflex one, thats rocks

hope you find this info useful.

welcome to GDF! ^ the thread ikyut mentioned should be helpful. How much do you want to spend for the camera? That will have a pretty big impact on recommendatons.

Personally, I'd love one of these!

I'd like to spend between $500- $1500. Less the better. I am looking at spending a nice chunk from my tax return, so I have plenty of time to study up on what's what.

Powershot Pro1 just went down in price. Mine was $799.00, but it's cheaper online.

Sony Cybershot... sexy as hell, but the lens is too good for the sensor. Overkill, and makes the price go up to an unecessary degree.

Wow. I typed good, considering that I just drank three manhattens, two glasses of wine and a beer.

I am seriously buzzed.

Dude.

Gonna download some pics soon and stick 'em on the Powershot thread.

I would highly reccommend the Fuji S7000. An amazing buy for4 the price. In my view just cannot be beaten for value (and i have looked at MANY)

It costs about Ģ300
6.3 Mega Pixel
6x Optical zoom (you can buy an attachment to take it to 10x)
Full manual (and auto) controls (nearly the same as my dslr)
256MB card included in price
Macro and Super Macro mode

The picture quality is superb. It can compete with the lower end slr's very well.

If you want any further details pm me. I have already recommended this camera to about 4 people. They are all extremely pleased with the result. See this link for a review.

I also was looking at the Nikon Coolpix 8800. Anyone have any opinions about this one? It has the 10x optical zoom that I need to get a close shot and 8 megapixels.

Nikon D70

It's retailing for about $1300 with lens kit. The more you learn about photography & get better at it, this camera will be able to do whatever you need it to do.

The only downside is that it is not compact like point & shoot.

You can go to www.dpreview.com or www.steves-digicams.com for reviews.
