Just like a paint and brush painting~:0)

Just like the Old Masters did it - glazing - mid-tones + Hi-lites + darker-tones - a bit of scumbling - classically trained in painting then along came the Mac Yonks ago - crawling along for years, then walking and finally learning to run - but one thing that happened way back in the nineties - one day closed up me smelly paint box, gave away all me paints and brushes and only used the old pixel machine ever after.

Barring the odd graffiti project - though even me own students do graffiti in the box for mechanical reproduction commercially - Ha! I'm the biggest whore! Even teach the kiddies to divorce themselves from the smellies in favor of the pristine "re-do-able" world of the box.

Think Outside the Box with hands hidden inside it working feverishly - there's the Fun! BB~:0)

Why even me sig pic here is done the same way - Ha! - it never ends ~:0)

Toolo - Awesome bird!

Klucid - Lookin' good, man. I like the blue half-tree guy.

Buckaroo - Man, that little girl is freakin' perfection!

I was at work today, gearing up for a poster I have to design soon. I want to do something kinda art nouveau inspired, or maybe graphic novelish, but illustrative anyway. So, this is one of the practice pieces I did. It's Natalie Portman. I did use a reference, obviously, lol, but I was pleased with the outcome and felt like sharing. And, I have to say, I like Nat with the red hair I gave her; she should try that sometime. :D

So, yeah, here it is. I used my Wacom Intuos 3 and PS CS3. I was working on it between other projects, so I guess it took like three/four hours? I really need to use my tablet more. And it's so much fun!

Whadya think?

I wouldn't let that stop you, most artists I know sketch everything out and then scan them in to finish them and add color etc.

Working from scratch in PS is fine too but you shouldn't have to think its the only option.

I definitely think you should get used to sketching by hand, BK. Drawing via tablet is all well and good, but you can't carry your notebook and tablet everywhere you go. A compact sketchbook and some pencils are far more compact, so you can draw, draw, draw all the live long day.

Good luck, and post some stuff when you get there!
