Question Hosting Website

So i was looking to host my website, wich is just work showcase and contacts and about just that, so i really dont see the need to get a payed hosting for such small use, although i bought a .com domain , i was looking to obtain a "good" website host for free and no-ads (wich seems to be all nowandays) but with a quick google search i got overwhelm with the results, so i ask you if you're using or used one of these and if you are satisfy with the results?
Any other info is welcome

I would go ahead and buy hosting. It's cheap, and you never know when you're going to need something that free hosting package doesn't give you.

I don't know of any free hosting that doesn't have ads. How do you think those companies make money? If they aren't getting money from you for hosting, they are getting money for ads.

i would be let to believe they get their money from people that actually purchase their premium services for more tools/resources, and i say no ads because a simple google search of "free hosting no ads" will give you tons of results, i already used one of these free host no-ads services, but was soo many years ago that i actually dont even remember their name, also i remember to be a pain in the butt to find such websites back then, but now seems they are pretty much everywhere.

yup, that i know, or else the payable ones would go out of business, but for the matter i want, its really more than enough, just wanted some feedback of people that had used or use and to know the loyalty of those, as ive heard they go off very often, thats why im searching for some actual knowledge on it.

I agree with cosmo, its worth paying a little and getting a host that caters for your needs (research several hosting services). I'm not familiar with free hosting services, but if something went wrong and the service doesn't provide decent support, your left in the dark.

If your not too interested in the back-end work of hosting, another low cost option would be using your domain for
a free service such as wordpress.com [external link]
Great overview @ smashing magazine [external link]

I think a few other portfolio sites, like behance and coroflot provide similar services.

hosting is less than 25 cents per day ... nothing in life is free.

@fd.ini
thank you for those information links, and yes a payed service is always more reliable but in the case of service failure a simple switch for any other competitor would solve the matter

@willyz
i highly disagree with "nothing in life is free", there is an infinite number of free stuff, air , walks on the beach, etc.. even i already provided free services for a local non profit organizations, also 25c day will resume to something as 90e yearly, imagine if we payed 90e yearly for every little subject that we get free in life, bankrupt in that same year ^^

Technically, clean air isn't free. Companies pay for equipment and specialists to keep some of the bad stuff out of the air, and the cost is built into the product and passed on to the consumer. There are government groups monitoring the cleanliness of the air, which costs tax dollars. Do you put air filters in your furnace? More cost. The beaches? Probably maintained by the county/city/government; again with the tax dollars.

No such thing as a free lunch; someone, somewhere, is paying.

Back on topic - personally, the likelihood of a no charge, ad free host going down would concern me. If I didn't have my website backed up on my PC, it's gone. That's it, goodbye, adios. There's also the downtime while it's gotten back up, which could be several days or longer if you're not in the habit of checking your website and the host doesn't give you any notice. What happens if a prospective customer goes to view your portfolio while it's down? There's a potential for lost business. If your email is on that host, that goes away, too. Personally, the cost of hosting is worth it.

I see where your coming from here, and i think your in the middle ground between the free services and a full website. From a business perspective, a website/hosting is more of an investment which in return you will get more work. Getting a client bringing in 100e will cover your hosting for a whole year. Is it time to make the jump?

Back to free services,
time is money too, the time you spend running around fixing problems with your "free" hosting is probably time better spent looking for clients or working on projects. Remember a website isn't the only way to promote yourself.
