Web Site Hierarchy
So I'm working on a web site portfolio currently for my portfolio class. My links at the top are currently red, but my teacher suggested it to be black. What are your guys opinion?

Black links with red rollovers would be quite smart.

So you don't think red links look nicer? Or should I really go all black on text, including links? Or should links always be red, but the navigation links would be black?
Btw, do you think the block of text should stop at the edge of the images, or should it go fully across? My teacher suggested for it to stop at the corner, but I feel like it should go across.

What Buda said, how else would you differentiate what page you're on? Keeping everything black makes red your highlight, while also highlighting your logo.
Block text where you have it works best imo. There's a reason newspapers/magazines organize articles in thin columns.

I agree red makes a god accent. Too much is overpowering.

Funny I always thought of god as being more white, and bright.

I'd almost be inclined to make the nav a charcoal grey, this would push it back in hierarchy and shift the focus on the content and logo, the red nav text is too distracting.
For the block of copy, I wouldn't extend it to span the whole width, but I would reduce the width of the images so that the image + description fit the width of the copy.

I agree with this. Make the links something like #666, and give them a red in hover state.
I also think the body looks too wide in comparison to the links.
