2 years ago I was on unemployment and I went to the office in my town, easier than the phone. I remember saying to the woman, joking, she pretty much didn't have to worry about getting laid off, with the unemployment rate so high she'd always have a job.
Uhhh yea, she was laid off 5 months later.

Typ, this might be common knowledge but I just discovered this myself on Craigslist. I've seen more than a few designer jobs in the PR/Marketing category. A lot of in-house real estate jobs.

A client cancelled an illustration project when it was almost complete. I was bummed about it but I requested they pay 50% of the bill for the time already spent. I wasn't holding my breath that they would pay it but they have agreed that 50% is fair.

I retain copyright and the illustrations could be useful for something else one day. It's not the first time I've been requested to draw this character, so might not be the last.

I hope they surprise you and pay, Buda. That can be a tough conversation.

And I know the feeling, Typ! My new desk at work is all nice and organized now. And, I have an iMac, which I had no idea how nice they were until working here. No big ol' tower in the way, nice big screen. heh, and plenty of space on my desk for all my 'toys' and such. Good stuff.

A tidy desk is a sure sign that you are not busy enough.
