yeah, you can go the remote route and if you need to, you can sync a folder or something between your laptop and desktop. i'm actually planning to do something similar in the future.

That's definitely the way I'm gonna go. I'm even going to build my own computer. With the help from daddy of course. Can't wait to get going on it! Thanks for the all the input here.

I like the desktop route. Once you make a little money you can then replace the laptop down the road. The only thing I can think of for advice is if your new PC comes with Windows 7 then you need the professional version to remote in. I don't think the home version supports remote desktop access. I THNK, don't quote me.

I'll look into that. I really don't know much about remote access so I'll be relying on my father's no-how a lot on that one. Also, I don't know if I'll be buying Windows 7. I'll probably stick with XP for now. Don't know if that makes any difference.

It does make some difference; Windows 7 will give you better performance, it's more efficient. Quadcore is better than Duocore if you're using your computer for Photoshop and multi-tasking. The Adobe programs utilize all cores. The speed may read as slower, but having more cores will give you better performance assuming the difference isn't very significant. Make sure you get a 64 bit operating system if you have a 64 bit processor and 4 gigs of ram, that's the only way you'll be able to use all 4 gigs.

Desktop is definitely a better route if the main purpose is work. Building your own computer is wise, newegg is of course great for that!
