I strongly disagree with outlining fonts. You can search the forum for Outlining Fonts for a plethora of info - good and bad.
I can't understand how a printing company cannot handle a file with fonts in it.

I don't mind fonts outlined... so long as they don't expect me to change it.
I HATE when I get a logo that does not have outlines in it and I'm missing the font. That is just silly. Outline your fonts before you give away your eps.
Or at least make sure you attach said font so I can load it in.

Like all things, outlining works on some things, not on others. Some fonts show a definite thickening when outlined and that can mess with the look of the piece. Other times, other fonts, it just doesn't matter. You don't want to be outlining text in InDesign though. Or in cases where there is a lot of text. Or if you expect last minute changes (when aren't there?). For poster sized stuff, it really doesn't matter.

ok i didnt read all the posts, so i could be restating the obvious, but maybe have the artist create the artwork at a higher resolution on his end (in photoshop). instead of making the canvas size 5 x 5 at 300 dpi, why not make it 5 x 5 at 600 dpi, or 10 x 10 at 300 dpi, etc.

Ang since he has sent me a bunch of art already, would i hurt if I changed the dpi on my end and saved it as a copy? Would it have the same effect as him doing from the original?

http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/ar...I_resizing.htm
check out this link...
he would have to from now on create them 'bigger'...if you create something too big, you can always take away and make it smaller. but if you create too small, when you try to 'add' stuff, you end up with mush... i think that brad clearly demonstrates that here.... and i think that its written in a way that anyone can understand.

Yes attach the font.
OR save it as an .ai with PDF compatibility to embed the font for printing.
So simple. EPS files are blurghgghghghhhhhh (take it with a pinch of salt you can still use EPS files, I just prefer .ai files over EPS files where possible).
