Anyone ever design a skateboard?

I have one I have to do.. the design is finished, but I have no focus group. I hate not being able to research.

Wow... no one huh.

Ok well its not an official approved design. I have to do that process tomorrow...and may have to take it down, but I need opinions, what does the collective think of this?

I think a little too much tax money is going to the military if they're making Coast Guard skateboards.

But as to your design, the colors are nice. The silhouettes are vertical while the text and face are horizontal - you never get the whole picture at once. The helicopter kind of dominates the scene even though an average person I think associates the CG with boats. Skateboard tops usually have unpainted areas of grip, is that a concern here?

I like it. Is this for a real project or for school? If its a real project, that is very cool.

LOL.. actually a REALLY efficient use of money.

We spend $18 a piece making them... sponsor a few skaters by giving them decks... get free placement in magazines, events, photos, talk time when the riders have them displayed. Our recruiters get access to the events to do the on the ground face time.

MUCH more efficient than a newspaper ad for $10,000 which runs once and completely misses the 18-22 year old market we are targeting.

Tight budget = not using much traditional media placements.

Helo VS Boat we actually see a vast majority in the focus groups thinking helo due to all the tv coverage with rescue swimmers etc. So I split it into elements. Hurricane symbology, tactical guy at the top, rescue with the helo & boat so people can lock onto whatever they are more familiar with.

This is the bottom, truck and wheel placement taken into account, top will be covered in grip tape.

Thanks for the feedback.

IMO The logo should not be on the tail of a skateboard, If it get's used, it will be one of the first areas to be scuffed into oblivion. Also I think part of the emblem will end up being covered by the truck (part the wheels attach to) in its current position. You should have specs for all this stuff from your skateboard vendor.

I do. Trucks sit 1" north of the emblem...kept it close to help elongate its lifespan. I have all the cut lines and text safe areas in the layout, just left them off for this post.

I know its going to get rubbed, scratched and otherwise destroyed. The Shield (emblem) should be protected, everything else will eventually go bye bye. Ollies will be ok, its the rails and grinds that are gonna kill it

2 uses. Given as event prizes/sponsorships. And static display at skate shops. Sponsored riders will have a clean board for podium and photo op.

Maybe I will work the symbol into a 2nd location to max out its survival time, but no where is really safe. Dual nose board so riding position will be switched around a lot.

Good lookin out.
