Here's some progress photos of the rocking chair transformation. I forgot to take a before shot, so the first one is after I started painting the underside. But this way you get to see what color I'm painting it!
Once I started working with it, I realized the top piece is too small for the quote I wanted to put on it. I found a couple of things online that inspired me, so I got some raised scrapbooking stickers and put them on there - stars and his name. (Yes, I know his name is off-center, but I think he'll be okay with it. In a few years we'll use this to learn about composition and kerning.) I didn't trust the sticker backing, so I added epoxy to really get them on there firm. Next step will be to paint over all of that, so it looks more like the letters are carved.
Then I'll make sure the whole thing is fully painted, and see about a design for the quote on the seat. I discovered that sharpies mark
very well on paint, so I should be able to carefully write it on there. Then my husband suggested an automotive clear coat to finish it off. Here's hoping it's not so slick the kid just
fwings off every time he wants to sit down.
And if he manages to chew it up over time, we'll just strip and sand it down and paint it again!
