Question Need some opinions on my personal Logo, Please.

Hi every one.

I am not a designer, I am a Software Developer, and I am starting a new freelance business, so I thought of creating a personal logo to use in my business card and website.

After playing around with illustrator for a few days here is what I came up with.
The logo is based on my initials, O R

Please let me know if it any good and if there is anything I can do to improve.

Thanks all.

Hello omsharp and welcome to GDF!

When you get settled please read this as well as these very important threads. They will give you all the info you need on how the forum runs, the rules and regs, and give you some background info on our long running, inside jokes

Enjoy!

Distances are as they should be, alignment is O.K. (except maybe the "D" in "DEVELOPMENT" should be tighter aligned to the "O" in "OR").

I think it's nearly perfect.

The swatch colors...is it old rose and gray? Or it seems you just pick it up? It appears dull to me.

The logo itself is nice and the "development" font is just right for the logo.

vectoranvil, thanks for the feedback. I have aligned the D with the O and it looks much tighter and nicer now. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback Merzee, I used Adobe’s Kuler to find a color palette. I am still looking for the right Color Palette to use in my whole brand, Logo, Website, and Business Card. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As far as color, I am still lost. But here is what I came up with. Most of them are based on the same palette except 4 and 5. Please let me know what you think of the color and if there is anything else I can do to improve the logo.

Thanks

It's not bad, but it it's not great either. It's stark and jaggy, there is zero personality, and it isn't really engaging because of that.

For your colour palette I would suggest looking through spot colour books as this will give you a standard to match your RGB and CMYK conversions to. It will also give you an option of printing things like business cards and letterhead with 2 colour printing instead of paying for full colour.

It is simple enough to be a logo with just one thing emphasized, the removal of the one leg of the r. There isn't anything that says software developer to me in the mark. Some say a logo doesnt have to describe what you do but it should hint at aome quality or idea related to the business.

it's not even that, this is like interfacing with something less-personable than a brick. With this logo I would half expect this company to run by the borg.

Did you brainstorm all the words you think describe your business. Also make alot of quick sketches to try and generate ideas.

Well, what do you exactly mean by stark? I am not sure about personality though, maybe you are right. Could you give me some hints on how to improve it?

Thanks for the feedback.

Well, I thought of fitting a keyboard icon somewhere in the logo, maybe inside the O. but I am not that skilled in illustrator and I didn’t want to use stock icon as that will look unoriginal. So I had to do with text only. But I will look into it.

Thanks
