Laying out my logo portfolio

After loads of procrastination I decided to put up a public logo site.

I have loads of logos to load up and for now just started to randomly throw up some of them to get my brainstorming going.

I would love it if you guys had any creative ideas how to group my logos. What you see is about 20% of what I have to show.

Honestly... the only one I like that I would even CONSIDER to be a logo is "ROQQ". All of the other fall short and do not meet the BASIC fundamentals that logos should follow.

Yes a lot of this first bunch are more signs then logos - I would agree to an extent - on the other hand at least 6 others are in full use as logos. The one you do like infact is a limited edition watch brand. So I am quite pleased you selected it.

Whether the work is to your taste or not - have you any ideas on laying out or grouping you would like to share?

They are priced accordingly.

None of them stand out in a good way.

You shouldn't post pricing on your site for everyone to see. Especially when your offering such cheap services.

All of them look like hobby work at best.

With that said, your audience doesn't care about design they care about a bargain. So the site design doesn't even matter so long as your prices are cheap.

If you want to be viewed as a professional keep the prices between you and your clients.

Getting your logo as vector artwork costs extra?

Well, I guess when you charge so little, everything is an upgrade.

I agree with CA and tZ. You're getting what you pay for with these.

So I get the point. Yes i pitch to a certain audience and maybe that audience is easily satisfied.

Please can a mod delete this thread - It seems that I have hit a nerve. It would have been nice if I had recieved even one helpful suggestion about layout but its not to be.

I would quite happily remove it myself but I do not know how.

Threads are not deleted on this forum, sorry. It can, however, be locked.

In terms of layout, You could try using a lightbox plug-in to add some spice to the viewing experience of those who view your portfolio. I would also narrow down the number of logos you show. Even if you have done HUNDREDS in the past, I would limit the number shown to around 10 of your personal faves hat really focus on the diversity of the work that you are able to accomplish for your clients.

Limiting the number of items you show on your site does 2 things. 1) It allows you to show your BEST work. and 2) The more you show the more likely someone will see something the DON'T like, which will put a sour taste in their mouth.

Just because some are used as signs, does not mean that they are logos. A good rule of thumb for a logo is that is should still be legible when reduced to the size of a nickel (.5"). And it should be able to be easily shaved into the back of someones head, or drawn in the sand at the beach with a stick. Also, they need to look GREAT in black and white ONLY (not grayscale), and be vector format to begin with to REALLY be considered a "logo".

I will differ on the need for extreme simplicity in a logo. You don't need to be able to shave it on someone's head. I really hate that analogy. It's too dumbed down. You'd have a hard time doing that with any number of high-end product logos.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try to seperate "logos" from signage and perhaps on the logo page show color / colour and black and white. Although I do not understand why it can't be grey scale ? Haven't nearly all printing methods moved on to deal with this yet ? As I said I am rusty and need oiling.

I cater for the client that most of you guys don't want. I didn't think this fact in itself makes my work unprofessional, although I am always learning, its a different market and has its needs, its own time frame and perhaps even its own legitimacy.

I am going through a process right now. I am tempted to just load up everything and then start culling.

When designers say that logos need to be able to work in black and white, they mean pure black and pure white, not greyscale. The reason for this is because a logo needs to be able to be printed in ALL methods. What if the client wants the logo frosted on a glass door? What if they want it carved in wood? Embossed in leather? The more complex the logo, the more restricted it's use is.
