Dominoes pizza - chicken tikka pizza design.

The outline on the text is purple ! I like this pizza and this annoys me because I do not understand what chicken tikka has to do with purple!? EVIL!
What do you guys think? Is this a silly design?

Well, Chicken Tikka is a Hindu dish. And they are a colorful culture (their manor of dressing).

Colorful culture = yellow, purple, orange, white, blue, red... Just like the logo.

Yeah, that's how I would see it too. Yellow and purple for an Indian dish.

I doubt the colour choice would effect sales - even if it is inappropriate, the message will still get through. Purple and gold in many cultures symbolise wealth and royalty.

Their pizza's (in Australia at least) are horrible, and people still queue up to buy them. I don't think the majority of their customers would really care about the finer details.

Ohhhh thanks for explaining that CKretAjint. However!! people such as myself dont know that so it just seems kinda random......
I bet the colour choice would effect sales if the actual chicken was purple.
Ill stop now......the design is pretty.

The purple background to the yellow text has more to do with the culture of colour theory than it does with the culture of Hindu peoples.

Red - Green
Blue - Orange
Yellow - Purple

Theory of complementary colour has been used for ages and ages in both art and design. I'm assuming the graphic designer has an education in the use of colour.

Cited from the internets for all y'all...

  • The complementary color scheme is made of two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. This scheme looks best when you put a warm color against a cool color, for example, red versus green-blue. The complementary scheme is intrinsically high-contrast.
  • When using the complementary scheme, it is important to choose a dominant color and use its complementary color for accents. Using one color for the background and its complementary color to highlight important elements, you will get color dominance combined with sharp color contrast.
  • Pros: The complementary color scheme offers stronger contrast than any other color scheme, and draws maximum attention.
  • Cons: This scheme is harder to balance than monochromatic and analogous schemes, especially when desaturated warm colors are used.

The yellow and purple association with curried food is strong in the UK. I don't know whether it began with a reference to hindu culture or just the fact that purple looks good with the yellow of pillau rice on packaging, but it's very much a standard design factor in supermarkets. People expect jars of curry sauce or frozen curried meals to use this colour scheme. Especially those including chicken tikka.
