I have a new boyfriend, his name is Mac.
OK, cheesy subject line...
I finally bought myself a new Mac...well, new to me...it's a 2 year old Intel based iMac with pretty decent Ram/HD/Ghz, all that jazz.
I'm gosh darned excited about this! Thing is, I don't know how well my PC files will transfer to my Mac; documents created in Illy and PS, as well as the fonts. I have a yummy font library that I don't want to lose and the sales guy at the store I bought my Mac from said, that there's a chance that transferring my fonts from PC to Mac may make them corrupted.
Yet months ago, when I was in another store looking at Mac's, the techy guy there said that there's no longer a conversion issue between PC's to Mac's. That it's just as simple as burning my files and fonts to a disk and opening them on my Mac.
See how i'm confused? Any suggestions or advice? Thanks in advance!

For the most part, fonts from PC to Mac are fine. However, there are still some that just don't work. I've come across a couple of fonts in the last year or so that my mac (at home and at work) just refuses to cooperate with. Generally tho, it's not an issue. And the fonts that I have had issues with aren't all that important to loose. Usually they're ones that were needed for a specific project, but have no foreseeable future useage. I wouldn't worry about it to much.

i have to tell you that if you've got PC postscript fonts, you're going to run into issues. those are the ones with the multiple files, i.e., .pfb and .pfm files. those won't convert at all, and you'll have to substitute with mac versions. now, you might get away with some of the windows truetype fonts, but not all of those play well either. best hope is for opentype fonts.

You've used your boyfriends? Shame on you.
Lisa, like Mojo said if you're using Opentype fonts they will be compatible. Postscript not so much.

Definitely not. Postscript Type 1 fonts and TrueType fonts are entirely different animals. You'd stand a better chance with TrueType (even PC flavor) on the Mac than you would with Postscript Type 1.

Thanks for jumping in there, Urstwile, yesterday got away from me.
Lisa, if you use a font manager like Suitcase or FontExplorerX, it will tell you what kind of font it is. You can get it free here. The very last one in the list is free, the others are free trials of the paid version.
