Technique

Just came across this image and wandered if anyone had any ideas on how it would have been created?

Thanks

Hmm, this one was probably made through the use of photoshop. the artist probably just played around with the distort filter to create the effect. i can't make out the original image though.

I'm going with the smudge tool also. It's easy enough to create.

You just create the image you want. I suspect that one has basic stripes of color made. Then, they added some noise and stripe filtering (Excuse the wording there...I'm not in front of my computer with PS installed). Once that is all complete, they used the smudge tool. I imagine that there were a few other things tossed in there for good measure.

Smudging or liquifying would blur all the details. This was a distort filter, maybe Photoshop's wave or maybe a 3rd party plugin.

Hmmmm...while I couldn't care less about who's right/wrong, I added Liquify to the mix in the first place because it's possible with Liquify, (in my experience), to get the exact effect in the OP image without obscuring detail. Just have to keep the brush size small. If the effect of Photoshop's Wave filter could be this randomized, I may have to play with it some more.

IIRC, Corel Photopaint had/has a tool that would do this nicely too, although its name escapes me.
