Here's a list (not necessarily exhaustive) of what structures are and aren't allowed to be used at least from a standpoint of stock photography.

The Walt Disney World entry states "Images from the entire resort are protected and are unacceptable for commercial and editorial use"

The list is good to know for other structures as well.

That list also contains items, brands and events as well as building.

Yeah, I've heard plenty of horror stories of Disney going after people over small things. One guy was selling t-shirts on the street in NYC with Mickey Mouse prints on them. A rep from Disney saw him and shut him down. Disney is very strict with their copyright and trademarking.

And as PrintDriver says, it's the House of Mouse that keeps getting the copyright periods extended to save Steamboat Willie from the Public Domain.

Well, this story was from 1990 or earlier, so the cameras were pre-digital

That is what I suspect. They don't want a small crowd coming around a non-Disney sanctioned artist offering cash for drawings.

Heck they even lock up Mickey Mouse at Disney World now too. you used to be able to see him and other characters strolling around the park and able to get a photo...now he's in his own house and might wave outside but you have to wait in line (and probably pay) for a photo with him.

My wife once flew down to Disney (Florida) to interview for the job as Mickey Mouse.

It seemed promising, except that the compensation was $6.15 per hour.
(if not minimum wage at the time, not far from it)

She learned a bit of a lesson about asking questions before traveling for a job opportunity.

My only other Mickey Mouse story was that a friend of mine worked in a bookstore with a guy who looked just like Santa Claus.
One time Santa Claus guy went down to Disney and hooked up with a fellow who played Mickey Mouse.
This story does nothing but make one picture Santa screwing Mickey Mouse.

They've been doing that for a while now. I went to Disney World in 1994 and we had to wait in line to see Mickey in his house. All the other characters were all strolling around the park still. Don't know if that has changed since then.
