Quark 5.0 --> PDF problems...

I'm not a huge Quark user, maybe you guys can help me out.

I have a multiple page document (set up as a book with two to four pages per file) created with Quark V.5 and when I go to distill it (ie: PDF it) it works fine on some of the pages but on a couple of them I get an error. The error is something like 'Type check... blah blah - something or other' It only happens on a couple of the documents, and only when I have the registration/trim marks box checked.

I need to eventually PDF it with the marks...

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

How many pages are in the document?

I do 64 pages weekly (also running v5.0), I do individual PDFs...when I first started this I tried to make one big PDF and I got the same errors. It's like it times out or doesn't have enough memory to do ALL the pages in one document. The press told me it was a memory issue. We tried bumping up my memory for distiller...we tried doing that for Quark also...same problem either way. When making the individual ones I get NO errors AT ALL for the same document I get the errors for when I tried to do ONE PDF file.

So...if you don't have tons of pages and can do the individual PDF files I would test that and see if it works without error....if it does then send the individual files to your press or open up Acrobat and insert the pages to make one document for them.

That's my suggestion...hope it helps! Let us know what happens ;o)

It's set up as a 32 page book, and divided into like 10 sections or files. I don't know how to get it to pdf the whole book at once, and have been doing them one section/file at a time like you suggested, but still get the errors. I guess I should try to PDF the single pages of the files that are giving me the problems, that way I might be able to narow the problem down to a single page. Hmmmm...

Did you try increasing your memory for your Distiller and/or your Quark? Also..leave Distiller running in the background while you make all your PDFs.

try making it a simple Ps file and drop it on distiller.

I'll try those. Increasing the memory might help. I'm pretty sure I've tried making a postscript file, not positive though. I'll try again when I get back to it, and tell y'all how it goes. Thanks for the tips.

So somehow it just worked. I didn't do anything different but this time it worked. I'm still puzzled, why would registration marks heed a postscript error? Oh well I guess it's 'fixed' now.
