wouldn't it be great if every time somebody asked a question no matter what it was .. somebody replied: 'I'm not sure I understand what you mean?'
I have went to some sites and downloaded things before.. but that old saying you get what you pay for.. it holds true ... sometimes you can get some cool .. crap. whats the word Im lookin for.. Ive drawn a blank.. you know introductory.. stuff.. you use it for a month and then if you don't buy it it goes bye bye.. geez sometimes my brain really pisses me off.
but stuff you get to keep.. CRAP

I always look at Freeware very carefully.
If it's a program, see if it's listed on VersionTracker and what other downloaders have said.
If it's a new plug-in or a plug-in for a new program, install it, then immediately try it to see what happens. Some of those things will 'break' your application programs but removing them clears it up.
If it's fonts, well, Freeware, I'd get a print test before comitting my design to it.
If you are talking about Kazaa - I don't personally condone it but to each their own.

If you get your freeware from download.com read the user ratings first, they are very helpful.
C:\DOS
C:\DOS\RUN
