Question Maya ?

I have just begun using Maya so I'm prety clueless, for now. I'm trying to convert a polygon into a SubDiv but when I select it and click the option the message "Error: Select a polygon or a NURBS surface from which you want to create a subdivision surface" shows in the lower right. It is selected! Any help is greatly apreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Hey dave, I'm not familiar with Maya, but I know a few people who may be able to help. Let me check with them.

dgrotz...here's one of the replies I got...

Try to see if all edges are welded, you can check this by clicking on the Border Egdes, When you sellect this you will see the non welded edges highlighted. When i get back home i'll check wheir this function is, as i can image wheir it is, but i can't say in which menu it is.

A second problem could be that you have more then 4 planes to one Vertice. As a Vertice can't handle more then 4 edges in Sub Division.

The Last fast sollution is go to Polygon>Cleanup (click on the edit options, and reset your settings for Cleanup) In most ways it will cleanup the errors in your Mesh, Press f and you will be directed to the error, like i said it could be that i would be cleaned up, but in most ways you have to weld the errors again.

If again after the cleanup you can't go to Subdivision, you have to look for the 2 first errors i gave you.

Cool

Thank you so much Tyger, I'll check out your forum you mentioned in your pm. I have just figured out the problem on my own, I had faces selected and appearently that was the problem, no mention of that in the help file.

Thanks,
Dave
