Colour Displays different in InDesign to Photoshop & Illustrator

Has anyone else noticed a marked difference in colours as they are displayed by InDesign relative to Photoshop & Illustrator (which are fairly similar in themselves).

I'm using a dual-450 G4 running OsX 10.3.3 and Adobe CS.

Also, since installing CS, the colours coming out of my printer have gone very wrong. I'm using an Epson Stylus 1270 with Epson inks and decent paper stock, and had no problems with Photoshop 7 and Quark 6 and Illustrator 9 (running in classic). Typically printed output is MUCH darker than screen preview, and once I've sorted that out, the colours are out as well.

I've tried all sorts of colour management settings, none of which have worked. It doesn't help that I don't seem to be able to get a colour profile for the stylus 1270.

Each time I want to print something I have to make individual adjustments to brightness, contrast and colour settings.

That's wierd isn't it. I printed something in InDesign CS on my Epson at home and it was much darker than when I printed it in Illustrator CS and I have NO idea why either. I'm on a PC running Win XP at home. In Illustrator the colors came out much more vibrant. I meant to ask someone this a few weeks ago myself. Its irritating..how do you fix it or can you? I feel like I should know the answer to this but I have nooo idea!

maybe its an issue with epson.. i use hp.. and colours are coming out fine!
i may be wrong but then again i may be right! (50-50chance!)

Yeah I dunno...its crazy! I have an Epson CX5400 and the colors are SO vibrant in Illustrator CS and look like ca ca in ID CS (

I think Print Driver mentions something about this that the color profiles where updated and now it's a nightmare to calibrate your sytem between old colors and new ones. I mean if the values are the same and the color come out diffrent then WTF are we going to do.

Maybe Adobe is about to drop some calibration software and the're just peparing a potential market.

Ok, I don't really know the answer to this but here are a few questions for you...(yes I'm one of those that isn't UP on CS yet. So little time...so many upgrades. I am learning about it though). I don't have the time at the moment to do some print tests. Short deadline.

1. Is/are the files you are having problems with new CS creations or old files you opened in CS?
- if old, how old?
- yes there are color issues if you are using Illustrator 8 files or files from different color spaces (RGB or CMYK) Very involved problems depending on what's been done to the files.
2. Are you having problems when placing the photoshop and Illustrator files into InD CS?
-as in, do the files print one color from Photoshop and another color as a Photoshop file printed from InDCS? Just trying to make sure I understand your question.
3. Does anyone know what the default workspace is in InDCS? Is it RGB?
- The default in Illustrator is generally CMYK
- images in photoshop are whatever you make em.
4. Have you set the InDCS color management under Edit>Color Settings to match your other programs?

Finally I 'gave up' and re-installed the software. The display of colour within all Adobe CS is consistent now (not sure what went wrong before), but printing the same file out of different applications still produces different results. It's good enough for layout proofs but no good for clients who want accurate colour.

Oh well...
