Illustrator Help

Ok, so I remade my logo in Illustrator, but now I can't do anything with it. I want to export it at 25 pixels high and I want to anti-alias it to a piece of background from my site. How can I do this? I tried save for web, but it automatically puts a wierd border area on the outside so that the logo isn't touching the sides of the image. And I can't get it to have a transparent background and I don't know how to bring a piece of background from my site into Illustrator.

Also, as some of you know, the logo looks similar to this E). To make that crescent in Illy, I put a white circle over a black circle. But I don't know how to make the white circle knock out part of the black circle. In PS I can just hit delete, but I can't do that here. Illustrator is really annoying me. Please help.

Hey buddy. Okay, for the first part.

1.) Exporting Illy so that you have a transparent background. First make a invisible box around your logo, make it slightly bigger then the logo so you have some room on the sides. Next, select all and copy, go into photoshop and just hit new, it should default to your illy file. Hit ok, and paste, now you should have your logo on a seperate layer in photoshop, now you can save it how you want...etc...etc... I think that should get you were you need to be.

2.) Knocking out the background of the elipse. Select the top circle, then hold donw ctrl, and click the black cirlce, they should both be highlited now. Go to windows>pahtfinder, and hit 'trim' its on the bottom row, second over from the right. Once you do that it should make your black and white circles merge. Their are others ways of doing it, but this is the most effective for your case. If you have any questions tomorrow you know we are all on msn messy for ya. Hope that helps Ryan.

Thanks. The Minus Front thing in Pathfinder worked better though.

I'm not sure what you mean by make an invisible box around the logo. How did I do that? How do I resize it so it's the correct size when I copy it into PS?

Yeah, minus front, minus back doesn't leave extra pieces laying around like the others do sometimes. An Invisible box is a box with no fill and no stroke. Why can't you just export as png from Illy? Or are you using a version that doesn't have that option?

If so, go to Photoshop and open the file from within Photoshop. You will have to tell it a resolution (not more'n 300dpi usually). It should open at the size you made the invisible box.

Ok, thanks. I'm using Illustrator 9. I can save for web in all the normal formats, but I need to anti-alias the logo to a portion of my site so it doesn't look jagged. I'll go see what I can come up with now.

You can always save an Illy file as an .eps and open in Photoshop. Usually works great. (No invisible box necessary.)

Copy and pasting worked great. It asks if you want it as pixels, shape, or path. I just picked shape and set it to anti-alias of the background. You can see it at http://www.edgewebdesign.org Its at the end of the nav.

^^ thats what I was talking about, the only problem with that is, if you dont put the invisible box around it, then PS scales the logo all the way to the edge, most of the time it cuts off parts of the logo.

Ryan, I knew you would figure it out once you knew were to look, just givin ya the ol' pathfinder secret ; )

In the Save For Web bit, change the matte to eye dropper colour, not sure this works for transparencies though, just to match say a blue background

Yikes Scoob, it's behind you!
