After some online digging, I found that the ruins were once the estate of Rose Redard, whose family owned Red Rose Tea.

This is the map of where I'd hiked today. Except I didn't follow the same way back from the Ruins as this person had. I kept going southeast back down to the road and walked that back to the car (by the P). I lost the trail in a few places around the swamp (which is really a small lake with a beaver dam) and I didn't feel like losing it on the way back. The old woods road was much easier to follow, and it's not even marked, doesn't need to be.

Ya, really cool!! Love to take that trail. I looked on Google Terrain Maps and it seems like a hike.
Must be other ruins around there in that area, all those NY rich folk gettin' out for the weekend
Did you kiss the frog?

There are a lot of ruins within the park. Before it was a park, there were a bunch of towns and villages circa 1840-1940ish, and as the state purchased all the land they'd demolish the buildings. But the stone foundations and walls for some still remain and are scattered throughout. There are also several abandoned mines, and a few cemeteries.
If you take that same trail south you hit the ORAK ruins. I photographed these for a photography assignment in school. I had posted them in some black/white photography thread, but I think the links have since broken.
And no, I didn't kiss the frog. I already have my prince, plus I didn't feel like tripping my face off.

Looks like a fun hike Virgo. Those pictures are great. I don't think I can pick a fave... though I do like the frogs.

Thanks. I'm hoping to convince my husband to come with me on my next little adventure.
