Any SketchUp Users Out There?
I recently reproduced the office building that I work in so that my company could upload it to Google Earth.

Shot at 2008-04-30
It looks a little rough as a JPEG. I had to remove items like the air conditioning units and trees before uploading it to Google's 3D Warehouse. I was just curious if anyone else was into SketchUp.

I tried it when it first came out and still play with it now and then. It really is a revolutionary idea-- a 3D 'sketcher' that anyone can get going in right away.
Believe it or not, one of my younger brothers was offered a position on the development team for this at Google (he decided to pick another offer).
The layout app is also well thought out.
What do you use it for?

I d/l'd it, but haven't had the chance to play with it much. I thought it was pretty cool...

I just used it that once to do my office building. It really is easy to use as soon as you install it. It only takes a few minutes to figure it out. Your brother must be a brilliant programmer.

I downloaded it when it came out ... but I'm not too swift when it comes to 3D art so I never really did anything with it.
Yours looks great!

Thanks! I thought the same thing about myself. I used to tell people, "I don't think in 3D." Then I got this project at work, and it was surely more fun to figure out than the same stuff I do every other day, so I gave it a try and it turned out decent, I thought. Perhaps you'll have a chance to try again and end surprising yourself as well.

I tried it at work because it's free to download but I'm too used to Softimage and it was a bit weird but i'll probably get used to it.

You can't beat some free software. I downloaded it several years ago when it came out and never did anything with it. I guess an actual project was the boost that I needed. It's a pretty powerful program and does a lot of things.

I have used it quite a bit at work - modelling offices, illustration roughs and then at home, I pretty much modelled the the complete renovations including extension, new floor layout, drive way, deck garden and loft extension.
It's really easy and helped my wife see how things should turnout.
