poser 5

I am brand new to Poser 5. I have read everything I possibly could and cannot figure out how to add an additional figure to a scene. I am trying to create a woman kneeling down to her dog. After posing the woman, I try to add the dog . The program then erases the woman and gives me the dog. I know I'm missing something. Can anyone please help. Also new to forums If I have posted this incorrectly, please advise.
